If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Of all the things we could offer God, it is humility and repentance that He values above all.
When we sin God doesn’t kick us out of His grace. Instead, it’s as if we leave His protection. It’s kind of like being inside a house when it is pouring rain outside.
As believers, we are usually inside under the roof that protects us from the nasty weather. Every so often, we willingly leave the safety of the roof just to get a little wet. Well, there is no such thing as a little wet in a thunderstorm.
God’s grace tells us that if we choose to come in out of the rain, we’ll be warm and dry. But in order to come in out of the rain, we need to realize that we’re wet, cold, shivering and that we can’t dry off on our own.
It’s this humility that brings us to repentance and prayer; and it’s this prayer that God hears and its God that forgives our sin and heals us.
