James 2:14 My brothers and sisters, what good is it if people say they have faith but do nothing to show it? Claiming to have faith can’t save anyone, can it?

Paul said that faith without works is dead. James echoes this sentiment here. True salvation is manifested in the believer by their actions. We must be doers of the word, not just hearers. Action is required of the believer. If you just claim that you are a believer, or have faith in God and Jesus even say that you are saved, yet your actions do not demonstrate it, then you may not have truly experienced a new birth inside of you. This new birth brings on a change of heart. Once you truly are a believer and are on the path to salvation, you must show it by your actions. What actions? We might ask.

Helping HandsA believer must love his neighbor as himself. He must be concerned with the well-being of others and give up the worry about self. There are many ways to do this. You must show hospitality, give freely to others in need, love all those you meet, be concerned for their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being among other things.

It is not just about going to “church” or being active in your congregation. It is about how you live your daily life in relation to others.  Some claim to be Christians yet their Christianity goes out the car window when they give the one-finger salute to the driver that just cut them off. Help others no matter who they are. That way you show your faith by your actions and deeds.

Actions do speak louder than words and a believer’s actions must be exemplary in comparison to those who are show menot true believers.

You call yourself a Christian but when someone comes to you for help you turn them away. This is not Christianity. This is the love of self. We must kill the selfishness within us if we are to be true followers of Christ.
